Zeek Logistics
The Client
Zeek Logistics is a freight forwarder and 3PL that provides a variety of warehousing and transportation services via sea, air, and land, with a worldwide network and partnerships in more than 60 countries.
The Challenge
Zeek Logistics operated as a paper-based manual processing warehouse where labor was a consistent issue, low inventory accuracy and processing speed, and high error and turnover rates. Replacing manual processes, designing a more efficient and streamlined operation, and building a strong foundation for client growth were the goals of their automation project.
The Solution
After a collaborative design effort, Zeek Logistics and KPI implemented AutoStore’s goods-to-person solution with a 24V MDR conveyor for inventory inbound and outbound movement. KPI’s Kompass AutoStore Module was used for inventory management, order allocation, and as an interface to AutoStore and Acumatica, their cloud-based ERP.
How did KPI partner with Zeek Logistics to develop the right solution?
Zeek Logistics engaged KPI to develop a storage and picking solution that utilized AutoStore’s high product capacity in a small footprint. Working remotely through the early stages of the pandemic in 2020, solutions were developed that met client requirements before being able to visit the facilities and observe operations.
Implementation uncovered numerous challenges with the leased facility, floor conditions, fire protection, and local permit authorities. The cloud-based ERP required the development of middleware for interfacing receipts, orders, and shipments.
KPI participated in selecting a third-party middleware partner and actively managed the project through all stages of implementation, up to product loading and go-live.
KPI’s transparent and equipment-agnostic philosophy allowed a partnership with Zeek to examine multiple types of equipment, vendors, and technologies, resulting in a unique solution that met their needs.
A transparent approach to our design/build process made both parties aware of, updated on, and sensitive to ongoing costs and budgets in project execution.
The Value
- KPI Kompass Automated System Module supports inventory and order management
- AutoStore Automated Storage & Retrieval System used for dental supplies and personal protection equipment
- The facility includes an in-line case sealer
